The Samaritan Counseling and Education
Center
“Committed
to integrity, excellence and faith sensitivity
in professional counseling, ministry supervision
and education for the health
(body, mind and spirit) of God’s people.”
The Samaritan Ministry
The
Samaritan Counseling & Education Center is a non-profit, ecumenical
ministry based in Colorado Springs and governed by a local board of
directors. The Center is part of an international network of counseling
centers affiliated with The Samaritan Institute of Denver. Our purpose
is to be known for integrity, excellence and faith sensitivity in
professional counseling, ministry supervision and education for the
health (body, mind and spirit) of God’s people. We provide professional
services to people whose pain, life transitions or educational needs
are causing them to seek professional services sensitive to their
spiritual values and beliefs by extending the ministry of our
sponsoring congregations. In 2005, our clinical staff provided clients
with nearly $62,000 in subsidized fee adjustments.
Counseling
Services
The Samaritan Counseling and Education
Center seeks to help people grow toward greater health and wholeness.
In counseling, clients are encouraged to utilize the strengths inherent
in their personal faith, together with psychological insights, in the
healing process. Our focus in counseling is upon helping persons
understand and act responsibly with regard to their issues, behavior
and circumstances, rather than upon making judgments or giving
prescriptions for life.
The Center serves individuals, couples, children and families, as well
as congregations, judicatories, schools and corporations.
Counseling is normally conducted in weekly, 50 minute sessions. Therapy
can last from several sessions to extended periods of time, depending
upon the complexity of problems.
A strict code of confidentiality is observed, as information obtained
in counseling sessions is never shared with third parties without a
client’s permission, unless required by law.

Spiritual
Direction
We provide spiritual direction as a way
for individuals and groups to deepen their walk with God, to help
people across transitions and to help people integrate their faith in
their daily lives.
Education
We provide workshops on topics such
as addictions, anxiety disorders, bereavement, blended family,
caregiving training for laity, co-dependency, creativity, family
systems, healthy congregations, inner child, and spirituality.
Preaching, retreats and workshops can be arranged upon request.
Equine
Facilitated Learning
An equine facilitated program dedicated to improving the quality of
life for groups and individuals. We provide experiential programs to
promote teamwork, communication, leadership skills, spiritual growth
and deepen relationships with God, self and others.
Fees
Our services are covered by a
variety of insurance plans. The Samaritan Fund and the Silent Samaritan
Program, our fee assistance programs, can provide financial aid to
qualified clients.
Clinical
Pastoral Education (CPE)
CPE is theological and professional
education for ministry. Seminarians, laity, ordained clergy and those
in religious orders learn or update practical, pastoral ministry skills
in an interfaith, interdisciplinary setting.
Our programs use Bowenian Family Systems theory as a way of
understanding the dynamics in church, workplace and relationships. We
also use Equine Facilitated Learning to help participants learn to
manage their emotions when caring for others and integrate their
learning.
We offer extended and intensive CPE programs that are community and
congregation based. Participants may use their existing ministry
setting or be placed in a church, agency or institutional setting for
their clinical placement. Our model of CPE is effective for both those
experienced in ministry and those new to ministry.
The Samaritan Counseling & Education Center CPE Program is approved
for Veteran’s Benefits through the State Approving Agency for Colorado.
